Child Molester Warren Jeffs Gets Life Sentence (Thank You, God)

warren jeffsPolygamist leader Warren Jeffs was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday for sexually assaulting two underage followers he took as a brides in what his church referred to as "spiritual marriages." The girls were 12 and 15.

Prosecutors had asked the jury, who deliberated for just a half hour, for the life sentence after presenting their "sometimes graphic" case, and rejected Jeffs' contention that he was being persecuted for his nutso religious beliefs. The 55-year-old head of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints received the maximum sentence on both counts. He'll be eligible for parole in 35 years.

Nicely done, Texas. My compliments to you for seeing this what it was: Vicious child molesting, not a religious right. And Warren -- glad to hear you'll be rotting away in jail.

The fact that Jeffs claims he's the victim of religious persecution is laughable. Mainstream Mormonism is one thing, the FLDS (which has at least 10,000 members!) is another. You're being persecuted because you're a child molester, Warren! Get it through your sick, little head! It's not because you try to instill your crazy religious beliefs upon millions of naive people, or even because you have 70-some-odd wives. You're a disgusting and dangerous human being who shouldn't be allowed to walk the streets freely! The recordings speak for themselves.

During the trial, prosecutors played tapes in which Jeffs was heard instructing as many as a dozen of his young wives on how to please him sexually -- and thus, he told them, please God. Where is the religious persecution in that? Seems like cold, hard evidence to me.

Oh, and let's not forget about the former members of the church who testified that Jeffs ruled the group with a "heavy and abusive" hand, saying that he excommunicated 60 church members he saw as a threat to his leadership, breaking up 300 families while stripping them of property and "reassigning" wives and children. Nope, nothing to do with religion there.

This is all neither here nor there now, though -- justice has been done. And thank God -- maybe even your God, Warren -- because having you as a free man is one of the scariest things I've ever heard.

What do you think of Warren Jeffs?
