Gay Rights Group Helps Tim Pawlenty's Campaign Put On the Glitz (VIDEO)

tim pawlenty glitter-bombedOf all of the GOP candidates running in the 2012 presidential election, Tim Pawlenty is probably the dullest, right? Maybe that's why Code Pink (a reproductive rights and anti-war activist group) figured he could use a bit of glitter in his life. The former Minnesota governor was in San Francisco yesterday, signing copies of his memoir, Courage to Stand, when two women opened manila envelopes and spilled pink confetti and glitter all over the table where Pawlenty was seated.

Talk about a fabulous protest! I got an adrenaline rush just watching the Code Pink campaigner Nancy Mancias yell at T-Paw as she and her cohort were escorted away, "Where's your courage? Where's your courage to stand for gay rights and for women's reproductive rights? Welcome to San Francisco, home of gay hero, Harvey Milk!"

You can watch it for yourself, too ...

I LOVE THIS for various reasons -- not just because I'm a total girly-girl, who adores pink. I also think it's amazing how Code Pink employs this completely innocuous way to draw attention to the GOP candidates' stances on two hugely important issues.

But at the same time, I'm not sure it's so wise to even go after candidates like Newt Gingrich (who got the glitter-bomb treatment last month) or T-Paw. They're obviously not frontrunners for next year's election. Bombarding them with cries for justice and glitter kind of serves to make it seem as though they're actually worth protesting! And they're not.

Of course we can't completely turn our backs to all of the GOP candidates, thinking they're not worth our time. I'm just saying I hope Code Pink conserves their energy -- and confetti and glitter -- to go after the man or woman who actually gets the nom for 2012. I have a feeling none of them has the courage to stand up for women's reproductive rights or gay rights.

What do you think about this kind of protest?
