TSA Pat Down of Suspicious Baby Is No Big Deal

The TSA has become increasingly well known for their ridiculous pat-downs and violations of children, but the 8-month-old baby who received a TSA pat-down in Kansas City last week was the last straw for many Twitter users.

The baby set off alarms with his stroller and the TSA, following protocol, patted him down. In the wake of 6-year-olds getting pat-downs, airport security has been making the news a lot recently for their disturbing pat-downs, some of which have been on children as young as 3. And now a baby, too.

The photo taken by Kansas City pastor Jacob Jester on Saturday and posted on Twitter has been viewed nearly 300,000 times and people are outraged, but the TSA says the baby's stroller set off alarms and they were just following protocol. And I, for the first time ever, am on the side of the TSA.

A baby doesn't look like a terrorist, it's true. But people have done stranger things in the name of terrorism and drug smuggling. Drugs have been found in diapers and stuffed inside onesies, and babies could easily be used in smuggling weapons. After all, who would suspect them?

I mean, let's face it, a baby isn't vocal. A parent could use him or her to carry anything he or she wanted and there is no risk that he or she will blab the plan or alert the TSA to anything amiss.

The likelihood is the baby was fine. And that's great. But does it really hurt a baby to be patted down in the TSA line? It's much more upsetting to see a 6-year-old who is vocal and who has been taught not to let strangers touch them. The baby is in his mother's arms, happily being searched, and the parents are cooperating.

Is it a little silly? Well, maybe. I mean, really, how likely is it that the baby is going to attempt to blow up the plane with his stroller? Unless he is Stewie from Family Guy with his diabolical plans, I'm thinking they're rather low. But you know, anything is possible. And in this case, no one was really hurt.

Pat the baby down, make sure he isn't a weapons mule, and move on. Nothing to see here! In fact, according to the TSA, the parents weren't even upset. It was just this one guy in line who became bent out of shape because he has a baby the same age.

For the first (and possibly the last) time, I'm with the TSA on this one. No harm, no foul. The baby wasn't a terrorist and we can all sleep a little easier tonight knowing the TSA is on it. OK, I'm kidding on the last part. But seriously, this is just not that big of a deal.

Do you think this is terrible?
