Does Kate Middleton Need Diana's Wedding Planner?

Kate Middleton and Prince WilliamWhile the engagement of Prince William and longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton might not be a huge shock to fans and followers of the Royal couple, it doesn't mean they -- and we! -- weren't excited. More than 1,400 Facebook fans "liked" the news after a half hour on the royal Facebook page.

And we thought we satisfied our royal wedding jones when Chelsea Clinton got married this summer. Can't you just imagine the hysteria over this one?

What we know so far:

  • Yes, Prince William asked Middleton's father for her hand in marriage.
  • The wedding will be in the spring or summer of 2011.
  • Once they are married, the couple will live in north Wales.
  • This will be one of the most anticipated weddings of the next year.

... But why? Sure, everyone wants to see the offspring of the late Princess Diana thrive and succeed. And while their courtship seems so utterly normal (meeting at college, taking ski trips, and a Kenyan vacation or two) -- I'm dying to know:

How will this ceremony stack up to Princess Diana's?

Let's compare the two, shall we?

The 2011 wedding is sure to be the largest Royal event since Diana and Prince Charles were wed in front of 3,500 guests, joined by an additional estimated audience of nearly 750 million TV viewers. With the social media revolution that has erupted since mom's wedding in 1981, I wouldn't be surprised if Facebook shuts down and Twitter overloads.

With neither the Prince or Middleton being a huge fan of publicity (Middleton has sued some paparazzi in the past), the couple is most likely to stray away from the location of his parents' wedding at St. Paul's Cathedral for a more private locale.

Whereas Diana was 20 at the time and Charles was 32, Prince William and Middleton (both currently age 28) will be under 30 at the time of their vows next year.

Charles had two groomsmen, his brothers Andrew and Edward. With Prince Henry, his father, and Middleton's brother James on the potentials list, that already makes three. Exactly how crowded do they plan on having it up at the alter?

Diana and Charles headed to Hampshire for their honeymoon. With Prince William and Middleton's vacationing history being a bit more tropical, it's safe to assume the couple will head toward the Caribbean post-nuptials.

Do you think Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding will live up to the Royal standards?
