Braylon Edwards, Kenny McKinley, Reggie Bush: Is the NFL Cursed?

Kenny McKinley
RIP Kenny McKinley
The NFL and some of its players are making headlines this week -- and not in a good way.

Kerry McKinley, a 23-year-old wide receiver of the Denver Broncos, was found dead on Monday afternoon, apparently of suicide from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. He died in his home, which is located in Centennial, Colorado. He has a young son who was visiting at the time, but thank goodness the son wasn't in the residence when the suicide took place.

Head coach Josh McDaniels said in a statement on the Broncos' website:

"Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room .... This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

This by far is the saddest news to come out of the NFL this week. But there are other players and harassed sexy reporters who are grabbing the headlines as well.

Ines SainzThe New York Jets are newsworthy again -- not for the winning performance over the New England Patriots last Sunday, but because of the (seemingly never-ending) controversy surrounding Ines Sainz, and star wide receiver Braylon Edwards getting arrested for drunk driving early Tuesday morning.

Edwards was pulled over in Manhattan for having excessively tinted windows and driving erratically. His blood alcohol level was at 0.16, which was double the legal limit in New York.

He was traded from the Cleveland Browns after punching a man back in October, so it seems he hasn't learned how to stay out of trouble quite yet.

The NFL also announced that even though they were "disappointed" of how the Jets' players and coaches acted around Ines Sainz, the league won't punish the team. Of course, the debate whether female reporters should be in male athletes' locker rooms and what these women should wear will most likely be discussed and dissected all season long. This is sad news for football fans: Can we get back to football, please?

If that isn't enough sports news for you yet (if you're still with me, kudos to you), Reggie Bush, star running back for the New Orleans Saints, is hurt! The exciting win last night against the San Francisco 49ers came at a high cost: Bush is out for six weeks due to a broken fibula. You poor fantasy players out there!

It's only Week 3, people. If you're sick of football already, get prepared -- stories and controversies from around the league are just warming up, and if this is a taste of what's to come, let's hope we can fit a happy tale in among all these depressing ones!

What do you think of everything that's going on in the NFL? Are you a Broncos/Jets/Saints/Sainz fan?
