Dr. Laura Drops the N-Word: Can't She Read?

Dr. LauraDr. Laura Schlessinger is busy apologizing today for saying the n-word a record six times on her radio show.

Among her gems from her rant against a black female caller was this one:

"Black guys use it all the time. Turn on HBO and listen to a black comic, and all you hear is [n---er, n---er, n---er]. I don't get it. If anybody without enough melanin says it, it's a horrible thing. But when black people say it, it's affectionate."

Can we send the doc a big fat DUH?

You don't get to crawl around all apologetic when you know what you're saying. Especially when you've got a list of prime examples of what not to do lined up ahead of you.

Let's make Dr. Laura a little cheat sheet for next time, shall we? Something she can put up on her wall?

1. Don Imus: Calling the women of color on the Rutgers basketball team a bunch of "nappy headed hos" lost him his job.

2. Michael Richards. His anti-Semitic rant during a stand-up session back in 2006 is why you haven't seen Kramer acting much recently.

3. John Mayer. His whole world changed when he dropped the n-word in Playboy.

4. Amy Winehouse. It doesn't matter what you're on, Amy, "gook" is never acceptable. Never.

5. Charlie Sheen. Adding insult to domestic violence, the hooker-happy Sheen once called ex-wife Denise Richards an n-word. The fact that she's white doesn't excuse it, buddy.

6. Mel Gibson. Come on, did you think we could skip the train wreck that is the man formerly known as a popular actor? Really, Laura, take your pick.

Is it a surprise that talk show hosts slip up this way anymore?
