More Immigrants Being Deported. Thank You Obama

Barack ObamaHey State of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, guess who's deporting the most illegal immigrants?

Not the Show Me Your Papers State.

A new report by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University show more illegal immigrants are being deported than ever ... by the Obama administration.

According to statistics, more illegal immigrants were removed from the United States during the first nine months of this fiscal year than during the same period in 2008 (when George W. Bush was still in charge).

To date this year, 136,714 "criminal aliens" have been deported. By this time in 2008, the number of deportees was 85,334.

Also up are prosecutions, which TRAC reports have returned to Bush-era levels. According to the statistics, "the total of 14,912 prosecutions referred in March and April 2010 by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the highest two-month total since September and October of 2008, when the combined figure briefly spiked to 16,127."

It's news the Arizona Daily Star correctly points out flies in the face of Brewer's repeated attacks on the White House, challenging the federal government for not doing anything to help secure the border.

Not to mention Sarah Palin's pronouncement that President Barack Obama doesn't have the "cojones" to take on immigration.

But perhaps equally troubling is the fact that these statistics aren't being touted by the administration. They would seem an easy answer to Brewer's statements like "we're out here on the battlefield," a comment she made insinuating Arizona is a lone duck in this war.

Instead Obama told CBS News recently,

"And what we can't do is allow a patchwork of 50 different states, or cities or localities, where anybody who wants to make a name for themselves suddenly says, 'I'm gonna be anti-immigrant and I'm gonna try to see if I can solve the problem ourself.'"

To be sure, he hits at the heart of the Arizona immigration law, but aren't the words "anti-immigrant" a tad hypocritical? After all, you just sent 136,714 of those immigrants packing this year.

Obama has to decide what he wants to do: placate the Republicans with real numbers or his own party with a federal challenge to Arizona's law.

Right now, nobody's happy.
