Yeardley Love: Did George Huguely Threaten to Kill Her?

Police are investigating whether Huguely
sent Love death threats

The autopsy report on Yeardley Love won't be available for several weeks. However, George Huguely, the UVA lacrosse player charged with first-degree murder, told police that he "shook [her] and her head repeatedly hit the wall" at her apartment.

That's got to be hard for Love's mother Sharon, and sister, Lexie, to hear -- Love's father died of cancer when she was in high school. Huguely's family must be suffering too.

Apparently Love's death was the culmination of a night of violence. It began when Huguely kicked open her bedroom door and ended with her roommate finding her dead -- face-down on her pillow.

Police officers quickly determined that Love had been murdered when they found her. According to their affidavit, she had a large bruise on the right side of her face, which appears to have been caused by blunt force trauma, her right eye was swollen shut, and there were bruises and scrapes on her chin.

Huguely also admitted to police that he took Love’s computer and tried to dispose of it -- the police have recovered it. Police are currently investigating whether Huguely threatened to kill Love via email and are also interviewing the pair's friends, family, and teammates.

If evidence of prior threats are found, it won't bode well for Huguely, who insists that Love's death was an accident. "We are confident that Ms. Love’s death was not intended, but an accident with a tragic outcome," said his attorney Francis Lawrence.

A Facebook page has been established in memory of Yeardley Love.

A statement released by John Casteen, the president of UVA, read, in part: "[L]et us all acknowledge that, however little we may not know now about Yeardley Love's death, we do know that she did not have or deserve to die -- that she deserved the bright future she earned growing up, studying here, and developing her talents as a lacrosse player. She deserves to be remembered for her human goodness, her capacity for future greatness, and not for the terrible way in which her young life has ended."

The Huguely family released a statement saying, "Grief has descended on this community as we attempt to understand what happened and why. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who grieve this terrible loss."
