A 10-year-old girl made a life-saving rescue after she saw her sister struggling in the pool at their apartment complex and used some quick-thinking moves to save her from drowning. Jayla Dallis from Dekalb County, Georgia, was playing in the pool when surveillance footage caught her springing into action and pulling her little sister to safety. Police are calling the girl a hero and are praising her what she did in the moment.

The sisters were playing at the pool May 15 when 3-year-old Kali Dallis suddenly went underwater.

As reported by WCSC, Kali was floating in an inner tube when she flipped and was forced underwater and struggled to get back up. Jayla was on the opposite side of the pool when it happened, but video taken at the apartment complex pool showed her noticing her sister struggling and then Jayla racing into the shallow of the pool to rescue her.

"She was, like heavy, so I had to pull her by her hair, and then I grabbed her by her waist and pulled her up," the girl told WSB-TV*.*

A witness called 911 while the girls' aunt and the apartment operations manager attempted to perform CPR.

Kali was rushed to the hospital, but doctors weren't sure if she'd make it out alive.

Chamblee Police Sgt. Ed Lyons said he was sitting in his patrol car checking reports when he heard the call and admitted that he couldn't help but think of his own 6-year-old daughter as he raced to Kali's side to help.

"I saw my little girl laying there. Same kind of little bathing suit she wears. Same little hair pulled up in a little bun up top," he said. "You know, you kind of have to push past that and do what you're trained to do."

"There you go honey,” Lyon can be heard telling her in the video. “There you go! Keep blowing it out! We've got a definite pulse."

Lyons happened to be wearing a body camera at the time, which captured the harrowing time it took for him to get to Kali and help with CPR. At the time, Kali showed some signs of life but was still in critical condition.

Kali was rushed to Scottish Rite Hospital and placed on a ventilator, but her doctors weren't confident she was going to recover.

Kali finally was able to return home Friday, more than two weeks after her near-fatal swim.

The girls' mother Daneshia Dallis is thrilled to have her daughter come home and said that she's hoping her child's story can be a warning to other parents as we head into summer.

"It's amazing. It's a miracle. Don't take your eyes off of them. All the floats are not safe. Be careful. Watch your kids," she said.

The mom is also calling Lyons "a lifesaver."
