This Mom Is Calling It: She's a Hot Mess & Still a Damn Good Parent

Since parenting so rudely doesn't come with a handbook, that means moms and dads are left to figure out everything about rising a tiny human for themselves. Many moms feel like they're flailing just trying to get through each day with their kids alive and the house not burning down, but they're afraid to admit how damn hard it really is. Instead of pretending that everything is lovely, one woman is ready to own up to the chaos that is her life as a hot-mess mom.

"OK, full disclosure: I really AM a hot-mess mom. I am consistently five steps behind where I should be in the world of responsible adulting," Danielle Silverstein wrote on her Facebook page, Where the Eff Is My Handbook. "Never once have I thought to myself, 'OMG, I think I'm actually tackling this whole parenthood thing.'"

But just because this mom of three has never felt ahead of the game when it comes to parenting, that doesn't mean she thinks she's a bad mom. In fact, despite what social media is constantly showing, Silverstein is starting to learn that it is possible to be a good parent without having your sh*t perfectly together. "So, I'm coming forward to say it to everyone ... I'm a hot mess. And I kinda just want to embrace it and move on, 'cause I have more important issues on which to dwell," Silverstein wrote.

Just in case anyone is curious about what exactly makes Silverstein feel like she is the founding member of the hot-mess mom group, she spells it out. "I am that mom who doesn't do dishes at night before I go to bed. I do dishes when I get around to doing dishes," she wrote. "I'm that mom who grabs her kids' clothes out of the dryer in the morning because nothing is folded and put away."

She's also the mom who always forgets to fill out forms for school, send RSVPs to friends' birthday parties, or show up for doctors' appointments on the right day at the right time. "I'm that mom who screams all morning to get the kids out of the house because we are all running late," she wrote. "I'm that mom who lets her kids have endless screen time sometimes (OK, more than sometimes) just because I don't feel like fighting and need to get a few things done."

But despite what haters want you to think, these "imperfections" don't define Silverstein as a mom. "I'm also that mom whose kids are safe. I'm also that mom whose kids are, for the most part, happy," she wrote. "I'm also that mom whose home has lots of love and laughter."

Despite what Silverstein feels like she's lacking in the perfect parenting department, she's that mom who cheers her kids on and is always their biggest fans. She's also the parent who is constantly working to show her children that they are accepted no matter what and that she never takes being a mom for granted. This means she's doing a pretty kick-ass job as a mom and her kids are lucky to have her.

"I'm definitely a hot-mess mom, but dammit, I'm still pretty fabulous," she wrote. "MY FELLOW HOT-MESS MOMS ... YOU ARE DAMN FABULOUS!!!!"
