Bereaved Mom Buys a Stranger's 11th Birthday Cake to Honor Her Girl

For parents who've suffered the loss of a child, one of the most important things is finding little ways to honor their child and keep their memory alive. One bereaved mom is going viral for the way she chose to do just that. After losing her 2-year-old daughter, Ashley Jodell bought a birthday cakes for a stranger in honor of the little girl she lost -- and it isn't the first time she's done it.

  • Twitter user Kyle Jauregui recently shared that he went to pick up his sister's birthday cake on December 29.

But when he got to the store, he was surprised to find that someone had already paid for the cake. He wrote on Twitter that the person who paid for it also left a special birthday card, and when his family read it, they were completely floored.

  • "Dear birthday girl family," the card read, "In honor of my daughter's 10th birthday, I have chosen your birthday cake to pay for."

"Each year I do this as a random act of kindness because I am unable to buy my daughter a cake of her own. Today is her big double digit birthday. Please enjoy your day. [Love], Mckenna's Mom."

According to Fox News, the cake was purchased by Ashley Jodell, whose daughter tragically passed away at just 2 years old after a television set fell over on her. Now, she buys cakes every year to spread kindness in her daughter's name and mark the birthdays she didn't get to celebrate.

  • Jauregi shared a photo of his own sister, Madison, with her birthday cake and the card, and he thanked the mom who wrote it.

The photos have since gone viral, amassing over 60,000 shares and 250,000 likes in just a few days. Thousands of people have commented to say what a sweet gesture it is, but one of the most meaningful comments actually came from a woman who knew Mckenna and her mom.

  • "I know McKenna's mom personally and want to say that yes, there is SO much good, so much love, in this world," the woman wrote.

"By sharing this, you have also sent so much of that love out into not only the world but the entire universe. Happy birthday, Madison!"

And all of our thoughts and love to Mckenna and her mom, as well.
