New Dad Stages a Hysterical 'Paternity Shoot' to Surprise His Pregnant Girlfriend

Maternity shoots are a big deal. They allow moms to embrace the beauty of being pregnant and celebrate that time for long after their baby is born. These shoots can be heartfelt, artistic, or funny, and having the right photographer and the perfect idea can turn a simple photo shoot into something really amazing. One dad desperately wanted in on the action, so much so that he staged his very own "paternity" shoot with a little help from a good friend and his favorite fast food restaurant.

  • When Nick Roberts found out his girlfriend, Brianna, was expecting, he decided to do something special.

Roberts's friend and photographer Stephen Cwiok jokingly brought up the idea of staging his very own "maternity" shoot. But what started out a joke transformed into reality pretty quickly. "After we talked about it more, we decided we should actually do it," Roberts tells CafeMom.

  • Roberts decided to use something close to his heart to make the shoot a little more unique: fast food.

"I felt it was only right to at least try to look a little pregnant, so we grabbed some McDonald's and off we were," he wrote in his viral Facebook post.

  • With a beautiful location and a belly full of McDonald's, the paternity shoot began.

Roberts says that he and Cwiok had trouble getting through the session. "The photo shoot was really fun but hard at the same time," he tells CafeMom. "The both of us could not keep it together. It was just too ridiculous and funny to be very serious."

  • The dad-to-be says the photo shoot gave him a deeper understanding of what his pregnant girlfriend goes through.

"If I'm being completely honest, the setting, the occasion, the awful cramps from the double cheeseburgers, it all brought me so much closer to the pregnancy," he wrote on Facebook. "Now, I'll never know what being in labor feels like, but I feel in my heart it can't be too far away from eating A LOT of fast food. I'm truly blessed to have had this eye-opening experience."

  • Roberts tells CafeMom that Brianna loves the photos.

"At first she was kind of like 'really, guys?' She knows that's something [he] and I would do," he said. "But she thinks they are hilarious."

  • In only a little over the week, Roberts's photo shoot has reached almost 100,000 shares on Facebook.

He and Cwiok even went so far as to create a special "thank you" video for everyone who shared and enjoyed the images.

  • While the photos are just now being shared online, Roberts and Cwiok actually shot them a few months ago.

Nick and Brianna’s baby boy was born on Halloween of this year. And while being a first-time parent is certainly harder than stuffing your belly full of McDonald's, it's pretty clear that Nick plans to make the most of the experience.
