Grandma Goes on an Epic Search to Find Her Son's Old Lovey for Her New Grandbaby

The lovey, the "blankie," whatever item you had as a little kid that kept you feeling safe, warm, and secure probably played a small but poignant part in your childhood. Many parents even go on to give their children the same lovey they had as kids. But after noticing that her son's lovey wasn't in the best state to be passed along, one grandmother took things to the next level to ensure that her young grandson had the best Christmas present ever.

Twenty-nine years ago, Nick Hollinger's parents gave him his very own lovey, a small stuffed giraffe that he would go on to name Fraffy and carry with him throughout his adolescence. Like most loveys, Fraffy was a constant companion throughout the years until he eventually got tossed aside. Years later, after Nick got married, his mom, Jan, found Fraffy and asked Nick if he wanted to keep the little giraffe in his new home. "Why don't you keep him for me?" he told her, as he recently recalled to Babble. "You can keep him safe and he can keep you safe, just like he did for me all those years."

Then, last Christmas, Nick and his wife found out they were expecting their first baby. Among all of the "regular" gifts was something much more special -- one that his mom had worked hard to secure. "My mom handed me a particularly fancy package and sits down next to me, eyes sparkling," he told Babble. "Carefully, I raised the lid and there he was: a brand-new Fraffy -- vibrant and velvety, horned, hole-less and whole, stuffed full of soft cotton and life. He was the best Christmas present I ever received."

With the gift, Nick's mom shared that she'd been searching for a replica of Fraffy to give to the new baby. Naturally, in her search to find a toy that was almost two decades old, she went to eBay. While she had to engage in a few bidding wars before she actually got her hands on the new Fraffy, she couldn't have been happier about it.

Nick told Babble that his baby son, Link, is definitely enjoying spending time with his very own Fraffy.

After sharing his story on Reddit, Nick received comments from people who found the story as heartwarming as we did -- and even from a few looking to find new versions of their old "loveys" as well.

The story of the two Fraffys is one of the most amazing ones we've ever heard. It perfectly encapsulates everything warm and fuzzy about a mother's love, so much so that it makes us want to start looking for the loveys we've lost track of.
