Barbie Is Now a Supporter of LGBTQ Rights & People Are Loving It

Over the past few years, Mattel has made a concentrated effort to make Barbie more inclusive. From extending its range of dolls with different ethnicities to promoting a variety of sizes and body types among dolls, the company has been doing a great job. Now, everyone's beloved original Barbie has made a statement in support of LGBTQ rights, and people are totally on board with it.

  • "Proud to wear this 'Love Wins' shirt..." reads a post on the official Barbie Instagram account.

In the post, the world's most iconic doll is pictured sitting next to another doll, both wearing matching "Love Wins" T-shirts. The phrase "Love Wins" has been a rallying cry for the LGBTQ community, and more specifically, for their right to marriage equality. While the Human Rights Campaign has officially stated that "Love Won," many are still using the timeless phrase to show solidarity. Apparently, Barbie is now one of those "people."

  • The shirts and Instagram post were created in collaboration with fashion blogger Aimee Song.

The woman, whom the other Barbie is modeled after, has her own line of "Love Wins" T-shirts available on her website. The T-shirts are exact replicas of the ones Barbie and Aimee wear in their inclusive photo shoot. While the shirts are $68, half of the proceeds go directly to The Trevor Project, a non-profit organization that works to prevent suicides among LGBTQ youth.

  • Not everyone was happy about Barbie's bold declaration.

  • But aside from a few ugly comments, the post received heaps of praise from proud Barbie fans.

  • While there's nothing confirming that Barbie is officially a member of the LGBTQ community, some took her wearing the shirt as a sign.

  • Other people praised the people behind the scenes who made the entire thing happen.

  • Aimee Song took to her Instagram account with her own message.

Alongside a picture of her and Barbie enjoying a nice brunch, she wrote, "Me and @BarbieStyle supporting equal rights because #LOVEWINS. Or as some of you have speculated, maybe we're secretly dating."
