Over 3 Million Toddler Plates Recalled Over Serious Safety Concern

There are so many baby product recalls that sometimes it can be hard to keep up. We'd spend all day checking bar codes and labels if we kept up with every one. But Playtex just recalled over 3 million kids' plates and bowls because they've received reports that the outer layer of plastic can come off, causing kids to choke. Time to check your cabinets, because this is one recall you can't ignore.

The recall impacts bowls and plates for children in a variety of patterns such as cars, construction scenes, giraffes, princesses, superheroes, and more.

Playtex is recalling the 3.6 million products (and an additional 1.9 million in Canada) because they've received 372 reports of the plastic coating on the plates and bowls bubbling. They've also received 11 reports of pieces of the plastic layer being found in children's mouths and four instances of kids choking on the plastic.

The bowls and plates have a colored rim and a little rubber rim on the bottom to prevent it from slipping. They word "Playtex" is stamped on the bottom. They may have been sold separately or as part of a "Mealtime set" with a bowl, plate, cup, fork, and spoon.

The bowls and plates were sold from October 2009 through August 2017, so if you've gotten hand-me-downs from friends and family, be sure to check them out too. They were sold at Babies "R" Us, Target, Walmart, and other stores throughout the US, as well as online through Amazon.

If you're one of the unlucky ones who has one of these bowls or plates, you have a couple of options to obtain a refund. You can reach out online at playtexproducts.com and click on "Recall" or call Playtex toll-free at 888-220-2075 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
