Military homecoming stories always deliver the feels, and this one is certainly no exception. Master Sergeant Shania Porter's touching reunion with her children at their school after being deployed overseas for the fifth time (a first away from her kids) is one for the books, proving the best surprises can happen where you least expect.

  • Porter, a master sergeant in the US Air Force, had an emotional reunion with her 4- and 5-year-old sons after a seven-month deployment overseas.

"To leave your kids who are used to mommy taking care, fixing meals and stuff like that, it's completely different to not wake up and hear their voice," the military mom tells ABC 15 Arizona News.

  • Having missed out on a kindergarten graduation and the first day of school, Shania made her surprise homecoming one her children would never forget.

"Attention Pre-K 1. I have a special announcement for a little boy that I flew so many miles to see and to tell him how much I love him," Porter said over the loudspeaker of her younger son's school.

  • First, this amazing mom went to her 4-year-old son Blake's pre-K class to surprise him.

How amazing are those wonderful signs in Shania's honor?

  • "Hey, hey little guy!" Master Sergeant Porter whispered to her son before he yelled "Mommy!" with excitement.

  • Shania then traveled to her 5-year-old son Bryce's school, where she pretends to video call him from 3,000 miles away.

"Hi Brycey. I missed you," Porter tells her son on video. "I heard you were crying today."

  • And once Bryce realized his mom was standing outside his school, this little guy ran into his mother's arms with all of his might.

  • Shania's heartwarming story is one many military families know all too well -- making their sacrifice for our freedom all the more incredible.

"To be the phenomenal woman that she is just being her, and to be in the air force, and to do everything that she does -- truly, truly a blessing in my life," Terrence Porter, Shania's husband, tells ABC 15 Arizona.
