Parents Are Outraged at This Store That Supposedly Carries Push-Up Bras for 7-Year-Olds


Once you reach a certain age, push-up bras become sort of a mainstay in your wardrobe. But, should heavily padded bras really be a thing for teens and tweens? That's a question dozens of outraged parents are asking after concerned customers noticed padded bras being marketed to girls ages 7–13.


A woman shopping at Primark, a popular UK retailer that recently opened several stores in the US, noticed some cutesy padded bras with tags that read "My first Bra." Furious, she took to Twitter to call the store out for sexualizing young girls.

While the tag on the bras doesn't specify an age range, most people are assuming they're for girls between 7 and 13 -- you know, the ages when girls start developing breasts and have to take that first awkward trip to the mall to shop for bras. And, for the most part, people are downright pissed that these girls are being marketed bras that basically tell them there's something wrong with their bodies.

Of course, not everyone was outraged by the bras. Some people defended the bras, saying it's just a "bit of padding" and it's actually intended for modesty.



Either way, it's unsettling for most people to think about bras with padding being marketed to kids who are barely old enough to wear a bra in the first place. In an attempt to squash the outrage, a Primark spokesperson defended the bras to Cosmopolitan UK, noting the bras are "moulded not padded" and the store's intention has never been to sexualize young tweens.

"This allegation is simply wrong," the spokesperson said. "We would like to be absolutely clear that these bras are moulded, not padded. 'My first bra' ranges are designed and constructed purely for support, comfort, and modesty ... There is no enhancement. This type of moulded bra is extremely common, and selling them is entirely normal practice on the high street."

"Normal practice" or not, it's safe to say these parents aren't backing down anytime soon.
