This Graduation Photo Is Proof That a Mother's Determination Can't Be Stopped

Nitra Myles and family graduate in inspirational and viral photo

If you've been cruising through Facebook or surfing the Internet, there's a good chance you've seen this picture. No, it's not a stock image -- or one of those inserts you see inside a picture frame. It represents real-life love, determination, and dedication. Shenitria Myles's family graduation photo is inspiring mothers everywhere to keep on pursuing their passions and dreams.

(Yeah, that hashtag is everything!)

What make this story from Shenitria (or "Nitra") so amazing -- and proof that all mothers are Wonder Woman -- is that this New Orleans mom had her child when she was a sophomore at Xavier University, graduated, and then headed off to graduate school, where she earned her juris doctor from the Loyola University New Orleans College of Law.

And, guess what? She's not the only one graduating this May.

That's right, Shenitria's husband, Mario Myles, is earning his master of education, and the couple's 5-year-old son, Mario Myes Jr., is graduating from kindergarten.

Shenitria had no idea her post on Facebook would ever get this much attention, or inspire so many women with children to keep on fighting the good academic fight. Shenitria and Myles recently penned the book Balancing Adversity that speaks to their life and their journey.

Looking at this photo of the Myles family makes me feel ... empowered. Whether a single mother, a young mother, or a mom who's just trying to figure things out, so many of us are advised to put our dreams on hold the second there's difficulty. And, of course, there are times when you need to push the pause button on your life's desires in order to get things done.

But, this story -- and this photo -- are living proof that dreams can come true. Hard work can pay off. And a mother's determination is something that can't be contained.

I've been going back and forth about whether or not this is the time for me to go to graduate school. Between juggling a marriage, two kids (2-year-old and 9-month-old boys), and a full-time job, there are days when I can't tell which way is up or down. Yet, there's something inside me that comes alive when I hear stories about moms pursuing their passions and achieving their goals. It just clicks, and allows my inner voice to say You got this, you can do it.

Thank you, Shenitria, for energizing so many of us fellow mommies to keep on keeping on.
