If one of your newborn twins had a serious health issue that required frequent medication, how far would you go to tell them apart? After multiple scares -- including giving the wrong child treatment -- one father is fearing for his baby's life. Taking to social media, this dad questioned parents about tattooing baby twins, and it's getting a lot of attention -- and stirring up even more controversy.

From how it sounds, this father, known as Reddit user Thrwydad, feels he and his wife have exhausted every possible option.

Dad admits it's super hard to tell premature twins Aaron and Adam apart, which makes the reality of Aaron not getting his medicine in time -- or Adam accidentally receiving the medication, which has sadly happened -- a life or death situation.

After failed attempt after attempt to distinguish his two loves, Dad, feeling helpless, turned to Reddit to ask for advice. He wrote:

My wife and I have two very premature twin boys. There is no difference between them apart from Aaron having very serious health issues, requiring him to have medication every 4 hours. If he doesn't have his medication it leads to significant consequences. The boys are 12 months old and are completely identical. Even me and my wife can't tell them apart and have been drawing on Adams arm every day with permanant marker (Aaron has very sensitive skin and we don't want to irritate it). This backfired when the twins were at grandmas and after a bath rubbed off the texta, grandma accidently gave Aaron's medication to Adam. Adam ended up very sick and Aaron in hospital for a week. This is a serious extreme situation and I don't want to take this risk again. We have had other mix ups with the boys but it has never wound up this bad.

We have tried other things but nothing else worked as well as the texta for numerous reasons-nail polish, bracelet, anklets, specific color clothes for each boy, shaving ones head and having the others long..

We are after a more permanant solution. I read online about someone tattooing a single dot on one of their twins and also about piercing ears. I really hate to say it but we are here. I need to do something permanant. I could have lost both my sons last weekend and I'm desperate. I am only after permanant solutions. Believe me when I say we have tried everything else before and it didn't work. Please help me. I don't want to lose my boy.

Can I be honest?

When I first heard about a father trying to tattoo his newborn baby in hopes of telling him apart, I was like, WTF. With all the modern advancement in our society, this is the only answer?

But then I had to take a step back and think about the situation as a whole -- and the truth of the matter is, I'm not in it. I have no idea what these parents go through on a daily basis, all the efforts they've tried, or the horror they feel if one twin doesn't get his medication and the other accidentally does.

Yes, an idea like this is unconventional, but if it helps save Aaron's life (and a doctor gives the okay), it could very well be the last resort.

Looking back, I'm sure this family would rather have a child who's alive with a questionable tat, instead of laying this sweet little one to rest because baby tattoos are taboo.

Honestly, I don't know what the answer is, but hopefully they find a solution, for the sake of Aaron's health.
