Parents Are Shocked When Son's PS4 Turns Out to Be Fake Wooden Model

christmas presentTalk about disappointment! As most boys his age would be, 9-year-old Scott Lundy was over the moon when he unwrapped a PS4 on Christmas morning ... until, that is, his dad Brian opened the box. Because there wasn't an actual PS4 inside; instead, there was just a fake wooden model of a PS4 with a "crude drawing and message" on it!

This wasn't some parental prank in the style of those viral Jimmy Kimmel videos. Nope, Brian Lundy and Scott's stepmom, Kristin Lundy, fully believed they were buying their son an actual PS4 at the Target in Saugus, Massachusetts. So they were just as shocked as Scott when they opened that box! But not quite as devastated as the little boy, of course.

"He's crying and he's upset and he's in the playroom by himself and he just wants to be alone," Kristin told WFXT. "I was crushed."

Awww, poor guy! Kristin also posted on Facebook that the ersatz PS4 "ruined" the little boy's belief in Santa. Well, I would think so! But what actually happened?

Apparently, when Brian returned the fake console to Target, they explained that this kind of thing happens from time to time, usually on the assembly line or at some point during distribution. And thankfully, the store was very sympathetic, not only replacing the PS4 but also throwing in a $100 gift card and an extra game for good measure. Also thankfully, the whole awful mix-up didn't "ruin" Santa for the little boy after all: His parents simply explained that a "rogue elf" made a big mistake, and that they plan to write a letter of complaint to old St. Nick himself.

So all's well that ends well, I guess. But still! What parent would expect such a thing? If there's a lesson to be learned here, it's this: Make sure you open those boxes and check to see there's an actual toy in there before you wrap it up!
