8-Year-Old Girl Diagnosed With Breast Cancer Will Undergo Mastectomy

Chrissy Turner is an 8-year-old girl with rare breast cancerChrissy Turner is a beautiful and bright young girl, who also happens to be an 8-year-old with an unusual form of breast cancer. Her story is both extremely rare and incredibly touching.

As one would expect, Chrissy's parents, Annette and Troy Turner, are still in shock that their sweet angel has to battle cancer. After noticing a lump on her chest last month, Chrissy has been diagnosed with secretory carcinoma, a rare type of breast cancer that affects one in one million people.

Chrissy will soon undergo a mastectomy at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah, that will hopefully result in complete remission for this third grader.

Sadly, this isn't the Turner family's first experience with cancer. While Annette is a cervical cancer survivor, her husband Troy is still battling Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (he was diagnosed in 2008, just one year after Chrissy was born).

Annette's best friend, Melissa Papaj, helped the family set up a GoFundMe page that will help them raise monies to cover medical-related expenses. The Turners have already filed bankruptcy in July 2013, and hope they'll have enough to cover both Troy's and Chrissy's bills.

I find it so hard to wrap my head around the fact that an 8-year-old has breast cancer ... and needs a mastectomy. This has got to be extremely tough on this family -- especially when Dad is still fighting his disease. I can only imagine how much medical care costs, which makes me even more sorrowful.

Turner family, please keep your head up. My thoughts are with you as you endure one of the most unthinkable situations. I truly hope both Chrissy and Troy can soon yell from the rooftops how they beat cancer.
