Two parents from Macon, Georgia, were arrested and charged with murder after an autopsy found that their 1-year-old suffered severe head trauma before dying. Authorities believe that the boy's mother, Jaimie Howard, had originally tried to cover for the boy's father, A’kym Henderson, and his role in their son's death. However, her testimony later revealed that Henderson punched her baby boy to his death while she "chose to look away."

The boy, who turned 1 on January 20, 2019, died just weeks later. But at first, there were no obvious signs of abuse.

King Henderson died at the Coliseum Northside Hospital in Macon, according to the The Telegraph of Macon. The boy had reportedly been found unresponsive by his mom who then rushed him to the hospital, but unfortunately it was too late, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office added on Facebook. King was pronounced dead at the hospital, but at the time of his death, hospital staff reportedly saw "no visible injury."

An autopsy performed on January 25, revealed more information about King's death. It indicated that the boy had a head injury, prompting further investigation. The Telegraph reported that the boy had multiple complex skull fractures, scalp hemorrhages, and a swollen brain — all of which contributed to his death.

On Friday, King's father, 21-year-old Henderson, was arrested in connection with his son's murder.-placeholder

King's father was arrested in connection with his son's murder.

Henderson was charged with murder and Howard faced charges as well.

Initially, Howard allegedly covered for her boyfriend and told police her son had been struggling to breathe when she found him. She “attempted to cover up this incident by initially stating … she was only woken up by the victim [her son] struggling to breathe,” a police warrant stated.

She continued to stick to her story throughout police questioning, but later changed her account and said she witnessed her boyfriend punch their son in the head multiple times.

The warrant stated that the young mother “chose to look away" while her boyfriend mercilessly beat their son. She then failed to seek medical attention for the boy after the beating, until King become unresponsive and then she rushed him to the hospital, according to reports. Police later arrested Howard and she was booked into the Bibb County jail. She is accused of “acting in concert" with Henderson in the murder of their son.

Friends of the couple were stunned by the news of King's passing and shared that they've only known Henderson and Howard to be devoted parents.

Howard's half brother, Aaron Beaver, spoke with reporters and said that his sister wants a private autopsy performed because she did not believe that Henderson was guilty. He added that both Henderson and Howard were devoted parents who stopped going out and partying to take care of their child. "They gave all that up when King was born,” he told The Telegraph. “She and A’kym put that baby on a pedestal.”

Beaver explained that they even moved to Macon to live with Henderson's mother after the baby arrived and added that his half sister has been “the sweetest little girl since she was 10” and “wouldn’t harm a butterfly." He offered no insight into what might have caused King's death. He also told reporters that his half sister is devastated. "She’s been heartbroken since it happened. She’s into herself,” he explained.

Howard allegedly told family members that she wants to have the boy cremated so she can wear his ashes in an hourglass around her neck.
