'Normal Barbie' Is Back & Ready to Teach Your Daughter About Getting Her Period (PHOTOS)

normal barbieRemember "Normal Barbie," that updated version of the plastic pop culture icon with "realistic body proportions," scars, pimples, and stretchmarks? Well, she's more normal than ever -- thanks to a new "Period Party extension kit" that comes with doll-sized pads, a calendar, and stickers for tracking periods, and an educational pamphlet.

It's all part of Normal Barbie (also known as the Lammily doll) creator Nickolay Lamm's mission to destigmatize completely normal functions and features of the female body -- because unfortunately, these stigmas still do exist.
"Menstruation is still a taboo in our society," he says.

"More than that -- sometimes it's still used as an insult."
"I've read horror stories of kids thinking that they were dying during their first period," Lamm told The Stir. "Parents are also wary of approaching this subject."
"I just don't think that something as core to a woman's life and health as menstruation should be seen as embarrassing in any way, shape, or form," he says.
"I'm sure that some people will think that this is a strange product, some may disapprove, and some people may even think that this is 'making fun' of menstruation. But I feel there's a very big difference between making fun of something and making something fun, especially if we are talking about a very important topic, which may be difficult to approach, for many kids and parents alike."
It's true that we've all been conditioned to think of periods as something to be embarrassed about (and with good reason, as long as chumps like Trump exist to ridicule women for having functional reproductive systems). And that deep-seated discomfort can make it difficult to bring this stuff up with kids, which is completely ridiculous, when you think about it. So maybe introducing the concept via a (normal) Barbie doll could help -- hey, it couldn't hurt! Plus, we have to admit that these accessories are super cute:

Admit it: You kind of want this stuff, right? Who doesn't love stickers?? And the gift of a doll with stickers is most definitely preferable to the nightmare approach of the hapless parents in this Lammily video:
Hmmm. If there are any moms and dads out there who've ever tried to pull off anything even remotely close to this stunt, then Normal Barbie's Period Party might just be a much-needed product after all!
