LeBron James Drums Up $41.8 Million To Give 1,100 Kids an Opportunity He Never Had

lebron james Basketball star LeBron James has announced a jaw-dropping opportunity for kids: LeBron will pay for 1,100 kids' college tuition, a sum that amounts to $41.8 million. That's a whole lot of free rides!

The Cleveland Cavaliers player will be offering this opportunity through his LeBron James Family Foundation, which already helps kids from third through seventh grade.

The foundation will team up with the University of Akron and fully sponsor 1,100 scholarships for kids currently in the "I Promise" program.

The reason? LeBron knows what it's like to grow up struggling. As he told ESPN:

I think it's probably one of the best things I've ever been apart of, this is very special to me. As a kid growing up in the inner city and as an African American kid, you don't really think past high school because it's not possible or your family can't support you. For us to be able to do something like this ... it means so much.

And in case you're wondering, a year's tuition at the University of Akron is around $9,500. So, if you pay for 1,100 kids for four years, that amounts to $41.8 million -- the equivalent of two season's salary on the Cavaliers!

I hafta say, I'm impressed: It's one thing to have a little scholarship with your name on it or one kid a year, a whole other to drum up $41.8 million for 1,100 kids.

It goes to show how when you're a kid who grows up with limited opportunities, they appreciate how far they've gotten and want to help other kids in those same circumstances.

All I can say is I'm cheering him on!
