Teen Waiter Gets $1,000 Tip for Insanely Simple Act of Kindness

$1000 tip for teen

A teenage waiter who took the time to chat about life with a male customer was rewarded with the tip of a lifetime: $1,000 on a check for $20.31.

The lucky teen, Brendan Motil, worked at the Smokey Barque BBQ in Frankfort, Illinois. It was a slow night, so he didn't think it was a big deal to be friendly with his customers.

Yet after this mysterious benefactor left and Motil went to collect the check, he was floored to find the $1,000 tip, as well as a note written on the back of the receipt.

"Thanks for your kind service! You're doing a great job as a server," the note read. "I'm not sure what your hopes and dreams are in this life, but I hope this tip helps."

The note goes on to add, "My hope is that people [are] more peaceful to each other. The world can be so negative and violent, [so] I commit random acts of kindness."

Random, indeed.

"My jaw dropped," Motil said, who added that the money would go toward a college degree in accounting. "I couldn't do anything. I was in shock."

All I can say is this mysterious man picked the right teen to shower with this surprising sum of money! Because sadly, I think that many kids don't give the time of day to bond with anyone but their friends.

But teens who do take the time to talk to adults -- even ones they may never see again -- may reap very surprising rewards. And while a $1,000 tip is certainly not the norm, I think it goes to show that teens should stop having tunnel vision in terms of whom they deem worthy of their attention!
