Mom's Photo of Little Girl's Car Accident Injuries Could Save Your Kid's Life

All parents have heard up and down the importance of car seat safety for kids. Still, as one mom's recent viral Facebook post makes clear, it's a whole different ball game to actually see what happens to a kid in a car accident.


Heather Starr, a mom in Fort Carson, Colorado, posted a photo of a 3-year-old girl who was in a car accident. The bruise on the girl's chest is from the chest clip -- which was placed properly at armpit level between her nipples. Horrifying, right? It definitely drives home how proper car seat use can spell the difference between life and death -- how even just an inch higher or lower on a chest clip is so important.

Clearly, parents know that car seat safety is important, but apparently that's not enough, since a recent study found that an astounding 93 percent of parents make a critical mistake when installing or using car seats. That's, like everybody!

I think the problem is that many parents are under the impression that as long as their kid's strapped, they're in the clear. Only with car seats, the devil's in those details: like the height of that chest clip, or the tightness of those straps.

To me, these precautions never seemed real until I saw this photo. So, I love how this mom is getting her point out there ... and given how quickly it's spreading I hope it will save some lives.
