Little Girl Tells Friend She Can't Attend Her Party Because of the Color of Her Skin

When Harmony Jones invited friends from school to her tenth birthday party, she received a note from one girl saying her dad wouldn't let her attend for a sad and unsettling reason: because the birthday girl Harmony is black.

This incident, which occurred at Highland Oaks Elementary in Tennessee, is a disturbing reminder that racism can still rear its head even today. Check out this video for more details:

But luckily, Harmony did not let this racial slight ruin her birthday. Her father, Christopher was also surprisingly forgiving, and does not blame his daughter's friend. Instead, the dad sees this as a wake-up call for all of us about how we should be more conscious of what we teach our kids.

I've gotta say, I am impressed: This could have so easily turned into a Jerry Springer-style mudslinging fest where the Joneses acted offended, angry, and resentful that such rampant racism is still around. Instead, he took the high road and did what families should do: celebrate this girl's birthday.

Have your kids witnessed racism in their own lives?
