Measles Outbreak Hits Illinois Daycare Hard

Here's more evidence that measles is hardly a problem that's going away anytime soon: a daycare in Illinois has two confirmed cases of measles, while three more kids there await test results. All five children at the KinderCare Learning Center in Palatine are under the age of 1.

Poor little ones! And poor parents. Since the MMR vaccine for measles isn't typically given before age 1, there's little those families could have done to avoid this outbreak.

And while the source of the infection remains unknown, county health officials are taking a better-safe-than-sorry approach. All staff and families have been notified, and anyone who hasn't been vaccinated has been told to stay home for the next 21 days. Let's hope these handful of kids is where this outbreak ends.
