Toddler 'Wakes Up' at Her Own Funeral (VIDEO)

empty hospital bedA story out of the Philippines making the rounds today is a gut-twister for any mom. Mourners didn't know what to believe when a 3-year-old "woke up" during her own funeral in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur. The little girl had been pronounced dead at 9 a.m. on Friday and was set to be buried at 1 p.m. on Saturday. But apparently, just after a priest was preparing to administer the last sacrament, someone noticed the toddler move -- and open her eyes.

What's more, they felt the child's pulse. Of course, the shocked father's reaction was to pick his daughter up and hold her close. Someone captured the emotional moment on video. Warning: The clip is most definitely of a disturbing, sensitive nature.

Although those present here believed this may have been a miracle, the child didn't actually survive ... Today, Dr. Mary Silyne Asor-Cabahug, the Municipal Health Officer of Aurora, reportedly used a cardiac monitor to assess the condition of the girl and found no signs of life, confirming her indeed dead. She also advised the kid's parents to bury the dead body soon to prevent diseases.

How absolutely devastating for these parents -- to believe their child had passed, then, for an instant, believe she wasn't truly gone. As if it wasn't a nightmare to lose a child, to be put on a roller coaster of emotion like this is unbelievable.

While this is obviously an illustration of a very extreme, hopefully freakishly rare situation, parents should be able to trust their child's health care providers to be beyond thorough. Of course, mistakes happen, but mistakes that could cost a child's life or put a parent through hell and back are just impossible to accept.

That said, this particular story is nothing short of heart-wrenching all-around. May these parents eventually find some solace and their daughter rest in peace.

How do you think you'd feel if you were in these parents' shoes?
