8-Year-Old Has Rare Condition That Keeps Her the Size of a Newborn (VIDEO)

Gabby Williams

Every parent deserves to see their child grow up happy and healthy. That's why it's impossible not to sympathize with the mom of an 8-year-old girl who is the size of a newborn baby -- weighing in at only 11 pounds.

Gabby Williams was born with a disease so rare there isn't even a name for it. The condition prevents her body from developing properly. She doesn't grow. She doesn't age. And even though she should be getting ready to enter a brand new grade in elementary school -- she still requires the same care that a baby receives.

Gabby's mother has to change her diaper, feed her, and raise her as a baby -- something she's done for eight years and will continue to do for the rest of her daughter's life.

Making matters even more difficult is the fact that Gabby is blind and will never learn how to speak. Doctors are not sure how long she will live, but considering they didn't expect her to survive very long after birth, she's more than beaten the odds.

Take a look at this video to hear more about Gabby's condition.

As the mom of a 7-year-old who seems to be growing up way too quickly just as most kids do, this story really struck a chord with me because I can't count the number of times I've wished he was a baby all over again.

There are days when I'd give almost anything to hold him in my arms and feel the warmth of his little head on my shoulder while rocking him to sleep. The period of time when he was an infant went by in a blink. With each milestone he hits as he gets older, I feel a twinge of sadness over the fact that my baby gets further and further away from being my baby every single day.

But then I tried to put myself in Gabby's mom's shoes. Her baby has been a baby for eight years and will continue to be a baby -- and she'll never have the privilege of seeing her grow up. From taking her first steps to her first day of kindergarten to the day she's too embarrassed to hold her mother's hand in the parking lot -- this poor mom won't experience any of those precious moments that make raising a child one of the greatest gifts in life.

And that's why I think all of us should keep this family's story in the back of our minds and remember it whenever we're having one of those days where we complain over how our children are growing up way too quickly right before our eyes. The important thing is that they are growing up -- something I'm sure Gabby's parents would absolutely give anything to see.

Are you guilty of wishing your kids were babies again?
