Pregnant Teacher Brought Back to Life After Giving Birth (VIDEO)

Erica NigrelliErica Nigrelli was dead when she delivered her daughter. The 32-year-old English teacher was 36 weeks pregnant when she collapsed while teaching at a Houston area school.

Coworkers tried to help with CPR and a defibrillator, but according to Click 2 Houston, after being rushed to the hospital, her heart had completely stopped as doctors delivered her baby via C-section.

Her birth story could have sadly ended there with baby Elayna never meeting the woman who had carried her for all those months, with her having to grow up without her mother. But it didn't. Instead, something amazing happened.

Somehow after she delivered, doctors were able to restart her heart, and today she and her baby are home and healthy. Incredible.

In addition to doctors, three of her coworkers are credited with saving her life -- the school nurse, her assistant, and the athletic trainer. "I wasn't scared," said school nurse Jennifer Longoria. "I knew what I had to do and my team was incredible."

Since the terrifying incident, Erica has been diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which makes the heart muscle become thick. Erica told the station that nine times out of 10, people die from the initial collapse. Fortunately for her, she wasn't one of them, and now she's received a pacemaker that will allow her to raise her baby girl.

What beautiful story. So often the news is focused on death, sadness, and destruction, but it's happy endings like this we need to see more often. Call it a miracle, good luck, or whatever you will, but it's flat out incredible. You know that after a terrifying beginning like that, they'll never take one single day for granted with their beautiful little girl.
