No. 1 Deadbeat Parent Caught After Decade on the Run

Robert SandRobert SandI tend to be one of those "to each his own" kind of parents. You do things your way; I'll do things my way ... and we can get along just fine. But I will never understand the kind of guy who ends up as America's "number one deadbeat parent."

His name is Robert Sand, and when cops finally caught up with him recently, he was $1.2 million behind on child support. That's spread over three kids and two ex-wives, but still. More than one MILLION dollars!

If you add up all the debts I've had in my life, I still don't think you'd cross that threshold. But that's what happens when you disappear for 11 years, running around the world instead of just going to a normal job, making money, and sending a portion of it to the women who are raising your child. You become the "number one deadbeat parent."

Talk about a dubious "honor."

Single parents of the world, I salute you. Especially those of you who have to deal with the Robert Sands of the world. I want you to know that I think you are incredible.

Let me just say right now that I realize I'm extremely blessed to have a husband who puts his daughter first. I was on a business trip last week, and he didn't even blink when I told him he'd be on single parent duty for three straight days. And when I came home sick as a dog and fell into bed for 20 straight hours, he wasn't complaining. Do I hold men to a higher standard because my husband is a fantastic dad? Absolutely.

I don't expect that kind of awesome parenting out of everyone. Some people just aren't made to be parents and end up in that situation anyway. Fine. So don't spend time with your kids because the time won't be quality. They're probably better off without you around.

But at least show a little integrity! Meet your commitments. Follow a gosh darn court order.

Because if you can't do that, you're not just a bad dad. You're a criminal. You're the kind of jerk who costs taxpayers money while federal marshals try to hunt you down as you skip from place to place.

You're the kind of guy who is facing four years in prison because you couldn't just pay your darn debts. And no one, NO ONE, has any sympathy for you.

How do you feel about deadbeat parents?
