Popular Infant Travel Bed Recalled After 5-Month-Old Dies

Pea Pod Travel Bed RecallJust in time for one of the biggest traveling days of the year, there's some scary news for parents of babies. A popular infant travel bed sure to be packed in the trunks of families across America is part of a huge recall. The PeaPod and PeaPod Plus Travel Beds made by KidCo have been implicated in the death of a 5-month-old baby boy.

The beds are blamed for trapping other kids and presenting a serious suffocation hazard, so it's not worth risking that trip over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house with this baby item. Want to keep your kids safe? Here's what you need to know.

1. The recall covers nearly a quarter million PeaPod and PeaPod Plus beds made for kids from infant to 3 years old. At least nine children have become trapped or experienced some sort of physical distress while using the beds, in addition to the 5-month-old whose lifeless body was discovered with his face pressed against the side wall of the tent.

2. The beds recalled are the following models: P100 Teal, P101 Red, P102 Lime, P103 Periwinkle, P104 Ocean, P201 Princess/Red, P202 Camouflage, P203 Quick Silver, P204 Sagebrush, P205 Cardinal, and P900CS Green.

3. The beds have been on the market in stores and online since 2005, so be sure to check even if you have a hand-me-down. They retailed for somewhere in the $70 to $100 range.

4. If you have one of these beds, you should stop using it immediately and wait until you have a free repair kit before pulling it back out of the closet.

5. For your repair kit, contact bed maker KidCo at 855-847-8600 (that's a toll-free number) between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. CT Monday through Friday. You can also visit the company's website to fill out an application for a kit.
