Mom Donates Her Liver to Save Her Baby Girl's Life (VIDEO)

mom donates liver

There's nothing more heartbreaking than watching your child battle an illness and feeling powerless to help them, but one mom in New York was willing to do anything possible to save the life of her 10-week-old baby girl.

Little Cordelia Minter was diagnosed with something called Biliary Atresia, which is a rare condition that causes bile to become trapped in the liver, which then results in cirrhosis and liver failure. The baby was rushed to Cincinnati Children's Hospital and underwent surgery to hopefully cure her, but the condition had sadly already advanced too far. And when her parents, Danielle and Cliff, learned that the only thing that would save her was having an immediate liver transplant, they knew what they had to do.

They were tested as potential living donors, and miraculously, Danielle was a match. So of course, she made the decision to donate a portion of her liver to Cordelia in order to save her life.

Mom and baby both endured 12-hour surgeries to complete the transplant, and thankfully, the operation was successful. And baby Cordelia proved to be an even bigger fighter than her parents thought, as she recovered from the transplant in only six weeks -- when doctors anticipated it would take her six months.

Take a look at this video clip to hear more of their story -- it will absolutely warm your heart.

How beautiful is that little baby girl? I couldn't stop the tears from flowing while watching that clip, because as a mom, I know I'd do exactly the same thing for my son if a similar situation ever arose. There wouldn't be one ounce of hesitation, and I'm sure any mom reading this feels exactly the same way.

And at the end of the video, when Danielle said that she "has a lot more patience now in the middle of the night if she wakes up crying" -- I couldn't help but feel another lump in my throat. So many times as parents, we complain about the times when our children truly need us rather than appreciating the fact that they are happy and healthy. And I know the next time my son calls out for me at 3 o'clock in the morning for ANY reason, this family's story will remind me of just how lucky I am.

Would anything stop you from donating an organ to your child?
