'Darth Vader' Volkswagen Ad Cutie Has Heart Surgery but Mom Prepared Him Well (VIDEO)

Max had his first heart surgery when he was just a 3-month-old baby. A week after that, he had a pacemaker placed inside him. This time around Max is having an artificial artery (created when he was a baby) placed that will replace his pulmonary valve and fix a hole in his heart.

Max's mother described his situation in an email and it will ... well, it'll break your heart.

She says when she told Max that he would have to have heart surgery, he cried and told her he was scared. She and her husband painstakingly went through every single fear Max had and talked them all out: Getting his blood drawn, staying at the hospital, missing out on summer fun. Then Max wanted to make a "CAN DO" list of things he can still do while he recovers.

But that's not all -- they also "funned-up" the house, creating themes for each room. It's incredible. You wouldn't think his parents would have time to do all of this. Then again, if my son were faced with heart surgery, I think I damn well would make the time.

Since then Max has gotten perspective on his fears. According to his mom, he said, "Mom, I don't have a choice. I have to go through it. I don't like it and it's scary -- but I have to. So I think I might as well go through it with a good attitude." This is a 7-year-old kid! Maybe some of his great attitude comes from the fundraising he does for other kids with heart defects and as an ambassador for Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.

Good luck, Max. May the Force be with you!
