Sick Kid Becomes Batman for a Day (VIDEO)

Batman for a dayThe robbery of the bank in North Little Rock, Arkansas is the best thing that ever happened to little Joel Smith. That's because the 5-year-old with brain cancer was allowed to dress up as Batman and stop the criminals in their tracks. He even got to throw a press conference.

There's nothing like a childhood cancer story to render me useless for an hour or two while I cuddle on the couch with my kid. I've shaved my head five times over for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which raises money to fit kids' cancer, because it ranks up there as one of the worst things I can think of happening to MY child. But thanks to some incredible cops in North Little Rock, Joel's story just left me grinning.

They were working with the Make a Wish Foundation, and naturally it was a "fake" robbery. The Joker and Catwoman were acting, and the tot wasn't rappeling down the sides of buildings or driving the Batmobile. But it doesn't look like those little "facts" mattered much to him:

Ok, so maaaaaaybe I had a few stray tears? I was good until they let him climb into the police car to take the crooks to jail! If being a superhero is a 5-year-old's dream, riding in a real, honest-to-goodness cop car has to come a closed second (it's right up there with "driving" a firetruck . . . if your kids haven't done it, check your local paper for the closest fire department throwing a chicken dinner or pancake breakfast; it is a MUST on your list).

That's the power of what a kid will make you do right there, isn't it.

Did this video make your day? What is your child's dearest wish?
