Netflix's 'The Princess Switch' Is Getting a Sequel That Comes With a Twist

Vanessa Hudgens and Sam Palladio in The Princess Switch (2018)

We knew Netflix has been revving up with the holiday and feel-good movies for some time now (the streaming service has a ton of Hallmark-y films), and it looks like it's ready to up the ante. The Princess Switch is getting a sequel with a twist that will likely have us seeing triple instead of double.

  • 'The Princess Switch' is a holiday film with royal feels that had Vanessa Hudgens playing not one but two characters.

In the Netflix holiday flick, Vanessa played Stacy DeNovo, a baker and pastry shop owner who heads to Belgravia to compete in a competition, and Margaret Delacourt, Duchess of Montenaro and fiancée of Crown Prince Edward of Belgravia, who's kinda tired of the limelight. The ladies switch identities for a couple days that result in happily ever afters ... but not how we expected.

  • And now, it appears another lookalike is getting thrown into the mix in the sequel.

Another gal who looks like Princess Stacy and Duchess Margaret? Were these ladies all separated at birth in some strange Parent Trap kind of way?

Guess we need to wait and see.

  • 'The Princess Switch: Switched Again' has a number of people curious.

Although there are tons of naysayers, the reaction has been pretty positive. Sure, the movie can be considered a bit cheesy, but what made for TV film isn't? These flicks are meant to make us happy -- with their baked cookies, elevator music soundtracks, and overly joyful people who give our dark hearts so much holiday cheer.

  • Others believe it's yet another example of how Netflix is giving Hallmark a run for its money.

    Mmm, maybe?

Don't get us wrong, we love Christmas movies (periodt), but Hallmark is ... well, Hallmark and has over 100 movies premiering this year alone. We're not saying Netflix isn't a worthy competitor, but with Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas and the Miracles of Christmas on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, there's a lot to compete with.

    (Just sayin'.)

  • 'The Princess Switch' sequel is set to hit Netflix in 2020.

Oh, you thought it was coming this year? Looks like you're going to have to wait! For now, we'll have to fill what little time off we have in our schedules to watch movies with Netflix series slated to come out later this year.
