Sam Taylor-Johnson did not go along for the ride that is Fifty Shades -- she was the director of Fifty Shades of Grey and then refused to return for the sequels. The backstory of why Taylor-Johnson didn't return for Darker is nearly as scandalous as the film itself. She said she wishes she wasn't a part of the film at all and puts the blame on one person.

That person is EL James.

There were plenty of rumors of the director and writer not getting along. The reality is that not all people work well together, and that's okay. But apparently, Taylor-Johnson is quite displeased that she and James had such a terrible relationship ... and she's still talking about it. She said she typically likes and gets along with everyone, but she couldn't understand the issue James had with her. Taylor-Johnson told the Sunday Times Magazine, "I like everyone, and I get really confused when they don't like me. I was so confused by EL James. I don't understand when I can't navigate a person, when there's no synergy."

Hearing this made us surprised they were even able to make a movie so loved by so many. But they did.

The union of James and Taylor-Johnson clearly wasn't a happy one, and there are some bitter feelings. In fact, the director of Grey even said that she has "zero interest" in watching any of the sequels. This is slightly surprising considering she claimed to be close with the film's stars, Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. But we get it. Though, we are a bit surprised that curiosity wasn't able to sway her to see what became of the film trilogy she started. She even said that in hindsight, she wouldn't be a part of the first film at all, saying she'd "be mad" to do so. There is definitely a lot of bad blood there.

We think the only way for Taylor-Johnson to feel better is to make a sexy movie starring Charlie Hunnam, the other one from the film that got away. That would make us feel better, too.
