Right now, there seems to be a trend going on when it comes to movies: If it worked well one time, it's possible it'll work again -- so let's go hard on all those remakes and reboots, and keep adding sequels to every major franchise (especially the ones with superheroes). Surprisingly, it's working as there's a ton of stuff on that list that we've been dying to see. But, sometimes -- mostly when it comes to the classics -- the wise thing is to simply leave the story where it ended. We don't always need to know what happens 20 years later, or how the main character's child is now following in their footsteps.

Everything was already wrapped up, and that's where it should stay.

Sometimes money is a factor, or its just too tempting not to try to make that magic one more time. This of course means that, by now, we've seen so many sequels, that we've never even wanted or needed at all.

And the results have been less than spectacular.

Between follow-ups to the scariest of blockbusters, iconic teen rom-coms, and even some stuff from the usually amazing Disney, we've cringed through regurgitated story lines, bad musical numbers, and seeing new people take over for stars we really love. Before some of the more recent hits such as Glass, we were getting accustomed to spotting titles with the number "2" attached to it and wondering to ourselves, "Uh, what the heck are they thinking?!"

Sure, these bad movies didn't exactly ruin our memory of the OG that inspired them, but we'd still like to erase them from our minds -- and history, too (Dorothy never needed to go back to Oz).

But since we can't, we're listing out 20 movie follow-ups that didn't need to be made.

'Aladdin'

Sequel: Aladdin: The Return of Jafar

Rated: G

Yes, Aladdin had a bit of an open ending with Jafar being trapped in the lamp, but we easily could have lived with him just staying in there. Now, we have Aladdin and Jasmine facing off against a guy they've already defeated, less-than-memorable songs, and no Robin Williams.

Ugh!

2/20

'Mean Girls'

Sequel: Mean Girls 2

Rated: PG-13

High School hasn't changed the second time around. There are still mean girls and unpopular kids, but now they're just rip-offs of the original ones. The lesson learned? When it's good, just leave it -- don't try to recreate it!

'Bring It On'

SequelBring It On: All or Nothing

Rated: PG-13

There were so many follow-ups to Bring It On, and all of them revolved around rival cheerleaders learning to get along. But, sorry: Not even Hayden Panettiere and Solange's version could dethrone Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union!

4/20

'American Psycho'

Sequel: American Psycho II: All American Girl

Rated: R

Are we to really believe that the only surviving victim of Patrick Bateman, a young girl, was so heavily influenced by him that she, too, has a thirst for offing people in a gruesome way? Now we're just getting silly!

But, hey -- at least Mila Kunis is in it.

5/20

'Grease'

Sequel: Grease 2

Rated: PG

Sandy and Danny flew into the sky at the end of Grease, and while that part was confusing, we assumed that was it. Done. The end. We didn't need to revisit the school for the same exact story and cheesy songs!

'The Little Mermaid'

Sequel: The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea

Rated: G

Ariel finally has her legs -- yay! Problem solved! But now her daughter is curious about her mermaid roots, and it's basically the same old story in reverse, complete with an evil sea witch.

7/20

'Caddyshack'

Sequel: Caddyshack II

Rated: PG

It’s hard to follow up a movie as funny and quotable as Caddyshack ... so why even try? With a low budget and only Chevy Chase returning from the cast, the only real reason to watch this one is to appreciate the original.

8/20

'King Kong'

__Sequel: Son of Kong

__

Rated: NR

The story of King Kong’s captors returning to Skull Island and running into the monster's son isn’t terrible, but it’s definitely not as serious as the first -- and doesn’t hold the same star power. Apparently, there was a rush to make it to cash in on the first movie’s success, which is never a good idea.

9/20
'The Wizard of Oz'-placeholder

'The Wizard of Oz'

Sequel:Return to Oz

Rated: PG

We understand there was more to explore in L. Frank Baum's land of Oz, but there’s so much magic in the first adventure that the follow-up doesn't compare. Also, why does Dorothy get shock therapy in the beginning of the movie? Why do half the characters look absolutely terrifying? Why are there zero songs?

Return to Oz just left us with a lot of questions.

10/20

'Bambi'

Sequel: Bambi II

Rated: G

We've already seen Bambi appear as an adult, so did we really need the story of how he bonded with his dad following his mother's death?

Nope.

11/20

'Cinderella'

Sequel: Cinderella II: Dreams Come True

Rated: G

By now, we've come to accept the fact that every Disney Princess gets a "happily ever after" in the classics, and don't really question what that means. So stories about Cinderella's princess lifestyle, told in three separate parts, was not something that we were particularly itching to see.

12/20
'Dirty Dancing'-placeholder

'Dirty Dancing'

Sequel: Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights

Rated: PG-13

This movie takes place before the original and has no real ties to it other than an instrumental version of "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" and a Patrick Swayze cameo. Perhaps they should have just kept this one separate, rather than trying to turn Dirty Dancing into a franchise.

13/20

'Sex and the City'

Sequel: Sex and the City 2

Rated: R

We had a series. Then a movie. And while we love these ladies, we're not sure there's much more to say at this point. Also, there’s no sex or the city in this sequel!

14/20
'Teen Wolf'-placeholder
'Teen Wolf'
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc.

'Teen Wolf'

Sequel: Teen Wolf Too

Rated: PG

We could've seen a Teen Wolf sequel being some sort of update on how the main character is doing as an adult. Unfortunately, Teen Wolf Too is just the same plot with a different guy (Jason Bateman), and it’s not as interesting as the first film.

Sigh.

15/20
'Carrie'-placeholder
'Carrie'
United Artists Pictures Inc

'Carrie'

Sequel: The Rage: Carrie 2

Rated: R

The big thing about the OG Carrie is that everyone died at the end ... so what more is there to say? Well, apparently (and once again!) we needed the same plot points with a different girl, and, unfortunately, it falls kind of flat.

16/20
'Son of the Mask'-placeholder
'Son of the Mask'
Zade Rosenthal/New Line Cinema

'Son of the Mask'

Sequel: Son of the Mask

Rated: PG

There's no Jim Carrey, no great physical comedy, and the CGI effects are pretty terrible.

Pass!

17/20

'Dumb and Dumber'

Sequel: Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd

Rated: PG-13

We already knew that these guys were the best of friends and that was enough to satisfy us. How they met wasn't something that kept us up at night -- but we got the origin story anyway!

18/20
'Saturday Night Fever'-placeholder
'Saturday Night Fever'
Paramount Pictures

'Saturday Night Fever'

Sequel: Staying Alive

Rated: PG

All of the excitement from first film was around that big competition -- not the life of a dancer trying to pursue his passion. Now, Tony is doing Broadway, which is cool ... but is it juicy enough for a whole movie?

Debatable.

19/20

'The Hangover'

Sequel: The Hangover Part II

Rated: R

Having one wild night with friends is shocking and interesting and hilarious. But having two where essentially the same stuff happens all over again?

That's just routine.

20/20
'The Blair Witch Project'-placeholder
'The Blair Witch Project'
Artisan Pictures

'The Blair Witch Project'

Sequel: Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2

Rated: R

The main reason The Blair Witch Project made history was that it was filmed in "found footage" style, and the movie ended when the tape ended. Unfortunately, someone thought we needed an update on how things were going after the fact -- filmed as a traditional movie -- and we got this.
