Thrift Shop Gets Creative With Copies of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' (PHOTO)

el james fifty shades of grey book Many people are reading Fifty Shades of Grey and then passing it along to their local thrift shop, possibly because it's not just one of those tomes you keep on your bookshelf. The Swansea Oxfam in the UK had so many secondhand Fifty Shades books that they made something incredible out of the naughty publication.

They made a fort. A fort? Yes. A fort.

Remember, these works of erotica are in a secondhand shop, so they really couldn't do anything that X-rated with the surplus. A dungeon would have been more suitable (or a large erect skyscraper-type structure to denote ... well, you know what). But as mentioned, this is a store where families often go to purchase books and records and not just a little shop of naughty things. So they painstakingly crafted this "fort" at the shop, which has caused many to take notice. Perhaps a very good sales tactic.

Being a mom of two kids, I took one look at this thing with horror. It is exactly the type of thing my elementary school–aged kids would run to and want to play in. Without care. Without worrying that they would knock down the 4,584 copies (my guess?) and find themselves in a massive pile. I could picture my kids in this pile, and one book opening up to the page that reads: "Suddenly, he sits up and tugs my panties off and throws them on the floor. Pulling off his boxer briefs, his erection springs free. Holy cow!" Ana has a way with words. Or should I say EL James.

My kid would look at me and say, "Mommy, what's an erection?"

Never did you think that Fifty Shades would be a catalyst to discuss the birds and the bees, right? In other words, I'd avoid this bookstore if you have kids with you.

Also ... just because there are so many copies of Fifty Shades at the shop, that doesn't mean they were cast aside without any love. I'd venture to guess that each one was oh so lovingly read and then joyfully donated to share the love of these written words. It is the kind of book you pass along to your friend and say, "You have to read this."

And you do. Just not with any kids around. It's a bedtime story for YOU.

One thing is certain here -- Fifty Shades of Grey is a book that inspires creativity. And not just in the bedroom ... in secondhand bookstores as well.
