It's been nearly 30 years since Heathers debuted in movie theaters, but somehow, instead of sliding into obscurity, the macabre teen comedy has achieved cult classic status. It was even announced recently that TV Land will reboot the film as a dark comedy on the small screen, giving the characters a present-day, LGBT twist.

But what's a reboot without cameos by the original cast? It hasn't been confirmed whether Winona Ryder and Christian Slater will be involved with the new show, but if the producers are smart, they will hopefully make it happen! Click through to find out what Winona, Christian, and the other Heathers' alumni have been up to since 1989.

Only 15 years old at the time, Winona Ryder desperately wanted the lead role of Vernonica at Heathers, but, she was, by no means, the producers' first choice! Reportedly, they had hoped Jennifer Connelly would star in the movie and had thought that Winona, who was best known for her work in Beetlejuice at that point, wasn't pretty enough for the part.

The now 44-year-old actress followed-up her work in Heathers with plum parts in movies like Edward Scissorhands, Little Women, and Girl, Interrupted. By 2000, Winona Ryder was one of Hollywood's favorite leading ladies and, at that year's Golden Globe awards, was photographed smooching then-boyfriend Matt Damon on the red carpet. However, in 2001, her career began to decline following a highly publicized shoplifting arrest. In 2016, Winona is set to appear on the forthcoming TV series Stranger Things as well as reprise her role in Beetlejuice 2.

As J.D., the new-in-town kid who convinces his girlfriend Veronica to murder her popular classmates, Christian Slater struck the perfect balance between charming and psychopathic in the film. Reportedly Brad Pitt had been considered for the part before producers cast a then-19-year-old Christian in the role.

After a well-received performance in Heathers, Christian Slater went on to star in movies like True Romance and Interview with the Vampire and has continued to work steadily. In 2016, he won a Golden Globe for best supporting actor for his role on the TV series Mr. Robot.

According to Heathers director Michael Lehmann, a 16-year-old Shannen Doherty, who at the time was starring on the TV series Our House, originally had her heart set on the role of Veronica. When she was inevitably cast as Heather Duke, Doherty proved to be a "bit of a handful" on set.

The now 44-year-old actress has lived up to her "bit of a handful" reputation since her breakout role in Heathers. Shannen has reportedly been fired not once, but twice, off of successful TV shows. After ongoing feuds with fellow cast members, she written off of Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1994 and, later, in 2001, she was given the boot from Charmed due to on-set tension with co-star Alyssa Milano. In 2015, the actress was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she continues to battle.

Already a successful child model by the time she was 14, Lisanne Falk was one of the oldest members of the Heathers cast. Afraid of being seen as too old to play a high schooler, she reportedly told the casting director she was 18 at the audition, even though she was really 23.

Since Heathers, the actress has appeared in a smattering of TV movies and films. Her last on-screen appearance was in the 2002 short film, Casablanca.

According to the film's director, Kim Walker "didn't have a lot of experience" when she auditioned for the ultra-bitchy part of Heather Chandler, but her audition won him over after Heather Graham turned down the role. (It probably also didn't hurt that 18-year-old Kim was Christian Slater's real-life girlfriend at the time.)

Tragically, at the age of 32, Kim Walker passed away of brain cancer in 2001. Her death was mourned by many, including her close friend Jennifer Aniston. Kim's last on-screen appearance was in the 2000 film, Killing Cinderella.
