Creepy New 'Fifty Shades'-Inspired Show Is Coming to a TV Near You

Leave it to Simon Cowell to always know how to capitalize on cultural phenomena. Cowell is reportedly planning a Fifty Shades of Grey-inspired TV show about sex parties -- but is he way off the mark in knowing what the average viewer wants to see?

The X Factor judge and entertainment mogul was reportedly sent a copy of a sex club memoir called Behind the Mask, which was written by Suzanne Kerins and Emma Sayle, the latter of whom founded a sex club called Killing Kittens. He was impressed with the tale, which has been described as "a true story of sex, seduction, and pursuit of pleasure" and a world where "women make -- and break -- the rules. An underground club notorious for parties wilder than Fifty Shades of Grey."

Cowell immediately saw a way to make money and, despite its apparent raunchiness, feels there's an audience just waiting to find out more about secret sex clubs. So far, no one -- not Cowell, Sayle, or Syco Entertainment -- is commenting on whether a reality TV show about the members-only orgy club is going to make it to British TV, but Cowell is known as something of a powerhouse in music and TV. He has made a lot of folks rich with his successful endeavors over the years, so you can bet if he's willing to put his stamp of approval on a Fifty Shades-type show, people are going to pay attention.

The question now is: Will an audience want to watch non-celebs have real sex the same way they appreciated the sight of Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson engaging in glamorous on-screen fake sex and S&M? Fifty Shades is a safe place to explore BDSM because it's fictional. I have a difficult time believing the film's fans will get the same pleasure in witnessing real-life couples get their freak on.

Since it's possible to find documentaries about sex clubs and orgy lifestyles on networks like HBO, the other question I have is: How will Simon make his series stand out? We aren't as naive and innocent as we perhaps were decades ago -- he'll have to really shock an audience to make his show stand out.

Time will tell whether the good folks of Great Britain get to enjoy this special treat, courtesy of Cowell.
