You May Not Recognize Anastasia Steele in 'Fifty Shades Darker'

In Fifty Shades of Grey, Anastasia Steele has a specific, innocent, girl-next-door look that drives Christian Grey wild: chestnut-brown hair, saucer-like blue eyes, and pale skin. But some are speculating whether Anastasia Steele will be blonde in Fifty Shades Darker as part of new director James Foley's effort to show how her character has developed since the first film.

All of this whispering about the character appears to be a direct result of the fact that Dakota Johnson recently sported a serious blonde mane for her edgy role in Cymbeline. Since it's been a while, here's what she looked like with lighter locks:

She's gorgeous, of course (I should mention: Dakota is a natural blonde), but she looks a lot more sophisticated and all-knowing with blonde hair, which isn't exactly Christian Grey's type. If you'll recall, this is the same man who gets turned on whipping girls who have brown hair, just like his mother had (gross). Unless the film's writers plan on creating an entirely different story, one in which Ana becomes the dominatrix and turns the tables on Christian, I don't see a place for Dakota's blonde hair in the sequel.

Let's not forget: Fifty Shades Darker isn't scheduled to begin shooting until at least February. It only takes a few hours in a hairstylist's chair to completely transform an actress's look. Dakota is proving the ultimate hair chameleon lately, but Anastasia Steele is devoted to the one hair look that grabbed Christian's attention in the first place: straight, medium-brown hair. There's no way she has blonde ambitions.
