EL James Gives New Clues About 'Fifty Shades Darker' Script

If you need any more convincing that everyone behind Fifty Shades Darker is playing the longest April Fool's joke imaginable on you, look no further. EL James posted three mysterious photos on Instagram that could, possibly, provide clues about the second and third films in the trilogy — or could mean nothing at all.

Fifty Shades of Grey fans are going absolutely mad lately, mainly because there is little to no information available about the sequel, which is set to start shooting in the new year. The project has yet to secure a casting director, meaning key roles have yet to be cast -- which makes it more difficult to imagine this film coming together.

People are even wondering whether the rumored director, James Foley, is set in stone yet. Basically, everything you've heard about Fifty Shades Darker -- except for maybe the fact that Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan have signed on to reprise their roles -- comes with a big, fat question mark attached to it.

But, hold on a minute: There's a bit of light in this dark, mysterious tunnel! James's most recent Instagram photos give us a few clues into what might be going on behind the scenes.

She may have been attending a meeting at the studio to discuss signing both Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed:

James's happy face emoticon, coupled with the sign on this door, indicates some sort of positive meeting took place with regard to the last two films in her trilogy:

And, most exciting of all, her selfie with Foley and husband Niall Leonard, who is writing the script for Fifty Shades Darker, indicates progress is being made -- perhaps they have both signed on to work on Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed? Can we pop open the bottle of champagne yet and congratulate them?

More from The Stir: All Signs Seem to Point to 'Fifty Shades Darker' Being Delayed

Don't get me wrong: I think it's wonderful that all parties involved in the project are doing what they can to propel it forward, but is anyone else getting really tired of all this secrecy? I'm guessing James has signed a confidentiality agreement with the studio or something -- there has to be a reason why virtually no info is available about the project or why everyone is so careful to confirm whether they're on board.

Fifty Shades Freed has a release date of February 9, 2018, which really isn't as far away as it now seems, given the amount of work and time it takes to create a film. Perhaps this meeting confirms that both Leonard and Foley are on board for both projects.

Oh well, good things come to those who wait -- I predict news will start coming in, fast and furious, now that James has taken what seems like a big leap in the right direction.
