Dakota Johnson Is a Far Cry From Red Room Ready in Demure Black Dress (PHOTO)

We've gotten used to seeing Dakota Johnson rock some seriously trendy and even unusual fashions these days, though she can typically be found walking the streets of New York City wearing a casual chic combination of distressed jeans and a smart blouse or jacket. But Dakota looked drop-dead elegant in a black, tea-length dress at the annual amFar Milano Gala on Saturday, and we could certainly get used to this side of the actress.

The 25-year-old, who will start shooting Fifty Shades Darker in just a few months, was absolutely stunning and sweetly retro in a Christian Dior strapless, tea-length dress that she paired with black, strappy sandals and a clutch by Roger Vivier, along with a gorgeous but refreshingly simple Bulgari diamond strand necklace and matching stud earrings.

I really love this length dress on her because it's fresh, modern, and the perfect way to distinguish yourself from what I'm sure were the many floor-length gowns in the room that evening. At first I thought her hair looked a bit too messy and undone, but that's the entire point. Had her stylist created an intricate updo, this would have looked too much like a vintage costume.

Dakota's only 25 — her no-fuss hair and minimalist jewels keep everything youthful.
