'Fifty Shades Darker' Producer Gives an Update on Casting for the Flick

Waiting to hear who will be chosen as Jack Hyde or Mrs. Robinson? Hold tight, it might be while -- a producer from Fifty Shades Darker finally explained why casting the sequel has been a slow and painful process (for fans!).

Even though the film begins shooting in the new year and Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan have already committed to reprising their roles as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, there are a whole lot of question marks surrounding the sequel. Everyone is dying to know who will play Jack (Ian Somerhalder?), a major character in the second film, as well as which female celebs will tackle Mrs. Robinson and Leila Williams (Charlize Theron? Alexis Bledel?).

But, Fifty Shades producer Dana Brunetti revealed to E!, any and all casting rumors are just that -- speculation. And here's why -- Brunetti reportedly said:

We're nowhere near casting. We haven't gotten into anything like that. We don't even have a casting director on it yet.

Seriously? What in the world are they waiting for? Granted, I know zilch about movie-making -- I just assumed, given how much money is at stake here, that the film would have already been cast by now.

The truth is: None of the folks whose names we've been happily tossing into a hat — including Henry Cavill as Jack Hyde -- have any basis in reality yet, according to Brunetti. In fact, the producer says fans are the ones spreading rumors about these actors and actresses and others are simply accepting gossip as fact.

More from The Stir: 'Fifty Shades Darker' Update Is the Best Thing You'll Hear All Day

Eh. Guilty as charged. I have to admit: The first thing I thought of when I read this wasn't -- oh gee, maybe we should calm down and wait to hear who is actually cast in these roles. No, it was: Oh, cool, this could mean Cavill and Charlize and Alexis may still be in the running to play these pivotal roles! So yeah, I'm a producer's worst nightmare.

Everyone involved in the making of the sequel is certainly doing everything possible to drum up interest in the movie by keeping us on our toes. Unless they suddenly decide to push the film back, I'm guessing a casting director will be brought on any day now. Seriously, guys, any day now...
