Alexis Bledel Will Play Leila in 'Fifty Shades Darker' If Fans Have Anything to Say About It

Fifty Shades of Grey fans fought hard for Alexis Bledel to play Anastasia Steele in the first film in the trilogy. Now that most folks are head over heels in love with Dakota Johnson and over that initial disappointment, the Gilmore Girls star's name has come up once again: There's talk that Bledel should be cast in Fifty Shades Darker in a role that fits her like a glove.

Bledel's name is reportedly popping up again as casting directors work to round out the cast for the upcoming film, and this time they are considering her for the role of Leila Williams. In EL James's novel, Leila was Christian Grey's submissive prior to his meeting Ana. She is described as young, confused, and mentally disturbed — a woman who locks onto Grey because she needs to feel secure.

Assuming screenwriters stay true to the book, Leila will share a scene with Anastasia in which she reveals to her that "master" likes girls who look like them. Based solely on appearances, Alexis would be the perfect Leila because she and Dakota could pass for sisters.

But anyone who watched the actress take on the role of sad housewife Beth Dawes in Mad Men — a woman who falls in love with Pete Campbell (played by Alexis's real-life husband Vincent Kartheiser) and then undergoes electric shock therapy — knows she can get into the minds of disturbed characters and make them utterly believable.

Bledel would be a captivating actress to watch on the big screen, and I hope she agrees to take on Leila. She is the perfect combination of wide-eyed innocence and acting experience and would take this smallish role and run with it.
