'Fifty Shades' Author EL James Scores Yet Another Huge Literary Success

e.l. jamesJust because the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy is one of the bestselling book series of all time doesn't mean there isn't room for still more success: Now Fifty Shades author EL James can add "bestselling Kindle author of the past five years" to her list of considerable accomplishments!

That's right: Amazon has announced that EL James is the bestselling Kindle author of the past five years, with the Fifty Shades trilogy at the very top of the top-five in the U.K.

More from The Stir: EL James Is Writing Another Book -- We Can't Wait

Fifty Shades of Grey came in at #1, with Fifty Shades Darker at #2 and Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl at #3 (Fifty Shades Freed was #4.)

Can you spot the connection? Apparently books that were turned into films made up eight of the top 10 bestsellers of the past half decade -- which must mean that plenty of people have no problem reading a book after seeing the movie. Which, when you think about it, makes more sense -- rarely is the movie actually better than the book, so you're less likely to be disappointed going in reverse order, I guess.

Seriously though, the full list of U.K. Kindle bestsellers could easily be mistaken for a list of award-winning films:

  1. Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James
  2. Fifty Shades Darker by E.L. James
  3. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
  4. Fifty Shades Freed by E.L. James
  5. The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson
  6. Life of Pi by Yann Martel
  7. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
  8. Watch Over Me by Daniela Sacerdoti
  9. Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup
  10. Thursdays in the Park by Hilary Boyd

Sure, we've only seen one of the Fifty Shades films so far, but we know the others are coming. As are still more accolades for James, no doubt (not to mention dollars). I have a very strong feeling that Fifty Shades is just gonna keep on keeping on, topping bestseller lists (both digital and non) for years and years to come.
