Charlie Hunnam's Confession About Dropping Out of 'Fifty Shades' Breaks Our Hearts

charlie hunnamI'm not taking anything away from Jamie Dornan -- he's everything Christian Grey should be. But I would be lying if I didn't admit that I sometimes fantasize about what Fifty Shades of Grey would be like if Charlie Hunnam stuck with the role of Christian. It would be a slightly different film, giving me a slightly different kind of feels. Charlie admitted that he really wanted to play Christian, but it's clear how much it would have changed him.

The only reason Charlie didn't take the role was because he was just finishing up his role in Sons of Anarchy and Jax Teller is so much different than Christian Grey. It was just too much for him even though he wanted to play Grey. Hunnam really takes on the role he's in -- for SOA, he rode a motorcycle everywhere he went -- he sort of loses himself while filming.

So being Jax and Christian at the same time or back-to-back would have been quite difficult. Hunnam said:

I was going to finish playing a psychopath who'd just lost his wife [in Sons of Anarchy], and five days later I'd be on set playing Christian Grey. I was like, 'This is going to be a f**king disaster. It was the opposite of how I've tried to ground my career, not stretch myself too thin, and always do my homework.

So he really did want the role, but the timing was wrong. And what a shame for us ... for the world. If we take into consideration that Charlie is the kind of actor who truly lives the role he is in at the time, he would essentially be Christian Grey in real life -- a kinky sexual deviant. This is almost too much to take in. But I will leave you with that thought ... for your fantasies to run wild thinking of all the possibilities.

Do you wish Charlie took the role? Are you happy with Jamie as Christian Grey?
