Emilia Clarke Reveals Why She's Still Glad She Turned Down '50 Shades' Role

There were a lot of actors who passed on the lead roles for the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, and given what a smash success at the box office its been, there are probably a few of them that regret it. Not Emilia Clarke, who recently said she has "no regrets" passing over playing Anastasia Steele.

The 28-year-old confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter for its latest cover story that she had been on the short list to play the part eventually filled by Dakota Johnson. She said she even met with director Sam Taylor-Johnson twice before declining to appear in the BDSM-inspired flick.

"I'd done nudity before and was concerned with being labeled for doing it again," she confessed.

While it might have been fun to watch the Game of Thrones star play opposite Jamie Dornan (holy hotness is all I'm saying...) can anyone really imagine her being a submissive? The woman plays one of the fiercest female characters on TV these days, leading her slave army and three pet dragons across the Seven Kingdoms in an attempt to reclaim the Iron Throne for her family's name. Yeah, I just can't see her saying, "Yes, Sir," to Christian like she means it.

She may flash us occasionally on Game of Thrones, but it's always on Queen Daenerys Targaryen's terms, not on the whim of a sadomasochistic billionaire.

Speaking of the most popular HBO show of all time -- Clarke admitted that she still can't get over the fanfare and popularity of it, even after five years. She confessed to the mag, "Never in a million years did I think Game of Thrones was going to take off like it did. It's taken me five years to catch up with it. I'm still not sure I'm there."
